It's been too long! Right now I'm sitting at the airport in Darwin, waiting for the day to start! I just finished two months of bar work in a small country town named Mulgildie (middle of nowhere). Besides filling up my travelfunds, I had a once in a lifetime experience in the countryside and met some pretty amazing people while working in the local pub. But more of that in another post, let's continue where we left of: Part 2 of my Sydney-Brisbane-trip!
COFFS HARBOUR
I ended up liking Coffs Harbour better than I had thought!
We found a library there (that’s where I could finally upload the previous
post) and had some pizza in the burning heat. We found a mechanic who had time
to check the two vans the next morning, so we stayed in a hostel (for the first
time!) that had a pool, thank god! On our way out of the city, we passed the
Big Banana, one of many „Big Things“ that are built along the eastcoast to
attract tourists.

me verassend goed (wat misschien aan mijn lage verwachtingen van het plaatsje
lag). Daar hadden we voor het eerst weer eens internet, zodat ik daar mijn
vorige post kon uploaden! Lekker pizza gegeten in de hitte, het was echt
brandend heet die dag! We hadden hier een garage gevonden die de twee busjes de
volgende ochtend zou kunnen bekijken, daarom zijn we die avond (voor he
teerst!) in een hostel gebleven. Wij bofkonten hadden daar zelfs een klein
zwembadje om in af te koelen! Toen we de volgende dag de stad weer uitreden,
kwamen we langs de Big Banana, een van de vele „Big Things“ die overal langs de
kust worden neergezet als attracties.
YAMBA
We stopped just under Yamba to take a swim in the „blue
pool“ that was supposed to be there in the national park. Turns out that our
„blue pool“ was actually green and full of poisonous algues, so we ended up
just walking through the national parks, following the walking track through
the bush and along the beaches, watching the surfers catching the waves at Back
Beach.
We stayed in Yamba for two nights, trying to escape the heat
in the camping pool and enjoying some beautiful sunsets!
Ons werd gezegd dat we
onder Yamba een „blue pool“ zouden vinden om in te zwemmen, maar die bleek
gifgroen te zijn en vol met gevaarlijke algen te zitten, dus uiteindelijk zijn
we daar maar een beetje door de national parks gaan wandelen en de surfers
vanaf de Back Beach bekijken.
NIMBIN
After a quick swim in Ainsworth Lake (one of the „Tea Tree
Lakes“ in Lennox Head, just above Yamba), the crew headed inland to Nimbin, THE
hippie-town in Australia. As we walked to the main street to see what was going
on there at night, the whole town seemed to be empty and all the stores (even
the little bar!) were closed. So we stayed there overnight and experienced
„special“ vibe in the morning that was exactly like I imagined it, maybe even
better!
Nadat we een gezonde
duik in Lake Ainsworth hadden genomen (een speciale „Tea Tree Lake“, schijnt
heel goed voor je huid en haar te zijn), reden we een half uur later Nimbin,
HET hippie-dorpje van heel Australie binnen. Het was er erg rustig s’avonds,
maar de volgende ochtend konden we gelukkig een erg interessante indruk van het
plaatsje opvangen!
BYRON BAY
In Byron Bay, we had our first car break-down, which lead to
Natascha and me pushing our Matty down the road until Jorn could start it
again! I loved Byron with its beaches, the sweet little shops in the main
shopping streets, the amazing Mexican, the entertaining live music, the beer
and of course the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse, where we found out about the
strict cops and their parking tickets in that area… The walk to the lighthouse
was beautiful, just a little bit further and steeper than we had thought, haha!
We moesten ons busje
dan wel de stad in duwen, maar dat was het ons zeker waard! Wat een leuk stadje
is dit, met heerlijke surfstranden, de kleine winkeltjes en natuurlijk de
beroemde vuurtoren op Cape Byron! Daar kregen we jammergenoeg wel onze eerste
parkeerboete, dat vonden we toch iets minder leuk..
SPRINGBROOK NATIONAL PARK
We stayed at Mnt Nimmel Lodge, a campsite in the middle of
the National Park. After finding a headless snake in the Ladies Bathroom, we
went looking for the Natural Bridge and the Glowworm Cave (unfortunately we
didn’t see any of those during that time of the day).

we op zoek gegaan naar de zogenaamde „Natural Bridge“ en de gloeiwormpjes-grot
(die niet te zien zijn overdag…slim!).
GOLD COAST
We didn't spend a lot of time at the Gold Coast, but it was definitely worth seeing! We had a stop at Surfers Paradise, the "Miami of Australia"...
We waren niet zo lang aan de Gold Coast, maar het is zeker een mooi plekje om te zien! We namen een dagje de tijd om Surfers Paradise te bekijken, het "Miami van Australia"...
BRISBANE
I didn’t see too much of Brisbane as I only stayed in the
actual city for two nights. I got a quick impression of the CBD and payed a
visit to the food court around lunchtime.
Van Brisbane heb ik
niet zo veel gezien, omdat ik er maar twee nachten ben gebleven. Ik zat in een
korte travel-pauze tussen twee reisgenootjes, waardoor ik genoeg te regelen had
en alleen maar de stad in ben geweest voor lunch (en avondeten, en ontbijt
haha!).
